Diabetes

Diabetes is a condition where the blood glucose (sugar) rises. It can, over years, cause complications.

Taking a blood test This risk can be reduced by healthy eating (see Nutrition and Dietetics); exercise; controlling weight, blood glucose, blood pressure, and cholesterol levels. It is due to lack or imbalance of insulin (a hormone). The specialty of hormone disorders is called endocrinology.

Endocrine and Metabolic Problems

Endocrine problems include thyroid, adrenal, ovarian and pituitary disease. We also care for people with metabolic problems (disorders of body chemistry) such as high calcium or high cholesterol. Another name for cholesterol is lipid. Many patients have a mixture of endocrine and metabolic problems.
