Infection Control: Fighting Infection Together (FIT)

The Fighting Infection Together group was set up at the Trust in 2007; with the aim of providing that essential link between patients/the public and members of staff from our hospitals.  The FIT members are all volunteers with a keen interest in the prevention and control of infection and many have links to a number of other public forum groups, including People in Partnership (PIP), Patient Improvement Cancer services (PICS), Local Involvement Networks (LINks) and Hillingdon Association of Voluntary Services (HAVS). Since coming together the FIT has proved invaluable in contributing to a number of initiatives.

Previous Initiatives

  • Auditing bare below elbows practice
  • Supporting hand hygiene events
  • Supporting our hand hygiene campaign
  • Manning a stand at the 2008 and 2009 Annual Public Meeting
  • Auditing hand hygiene practice
  • Reading and approving patient information leaflets
  • Examining our hospital laundry arrangements
  • Producing a ‘patient friendly’ infection control annual report
  • Supported food safety awareness event in 2010 & 2011
  • Audited signage for handwashing and undertook Trust walk around
  • Developed and approved new posters for preventing Norovirus
