Community Midwife RoleMidwives working in the community setting will provide Antenatal and Postnatal care for all women living in the borough The midwives are on call 24 hour per day to attend homebirths. Supervisor of Midwives RoleWe have a network of Supervisors of Midwives who are proactive in supporting Midwives in safe childbirth for all. They play an active role throughout Maternity services and within the Trust in supporting the Clinical Governance Agenda. Antenatal testsMany routine tests are offered to women during the course of their pregnancy. Blood tests are offered early on to screen for infections that could affect the baby and to check the woman's blood group. Urine tests check for infections, protein and sugar. Ultrasound scans determine the position of the placenta and look for any physical problem that could affect the baby or delivery. Women may also be offered a variety of other screening tests.
Parent Education Workshops/ClassesWorkshops are offered to first time mums to help prepare you for the birth of your baby and feeding advice. To book a place contact the community midwives office, ideally before you are 28 weeks pregnant to secure a place. Telephone number 01895 279472. Antenatal classes are also offered by the National Childbirth Trust (NCT), a charitable organisation. The NCT offers a reduced fee for people with low incomes.
