nurse The Cardiac Care Unit is based at the Hillingdon Hospital site. The department is fully equipped to provide a complete range of services for the diagnosis and treatment of heart conditions. Full investigations are provided by a team of highly qualified cardiac surgeons and physicians.

This modern, 7 bedded unit cares for a range of cardiac illness: acute coronary syndromes, cardiac arrhythmias, left ventricular and congestive cardiac failure and other high dependency conditions. The 22 strong team work alongside two consultant cardiologists providing full investigations and treatment in the management of heart patients.. They work closely with the cardiac rehabilitation team, heart failure specialist nurse and senior nurse cardiology.

  • Invasive arterial and central venous pressure monitoring
  • Transvenous and external pacing
  • Inotropic support
  • Thrombolysis
  • Non invasive ventilation
  • Elective and emergency D/C carioversions
  • Transoesophageal and transthoracic echocardiograms
  • Telemetry monitoring

The Unit runs an in-house ECG workshop and have two funded places per year in affiliation with Buckinghamshire Chilterns University College (BCUC) to undertake the specialist Coronary Care Course. We are currently in partnership with Harefield Hospital providing primary angiography to all patients that present with acute myocardial infarction.
