 Radiology (Imaging/X-Ray)Hillingdon Hospital Mount Vernon Hospital The radiology department provides diagnostic imaging services at both Hillingdon Hospital and Mount Vernon. Both departments offer a walk-in service for simple x-rays. Ultrasounds and more complicated investigations are done by appointment so that the most appropriately trained and experienced member of staff can examine patients. Medical technology is a fast developing area, so the Trust has adopted a rolling programme of equipment replacement to make sure patients receive up-to-date, high quality imaging. Recent major upgrades include new x-ray machines in theatres on both sites, a specialised screening room at Hillingdon, three ultrasound machines and the Trust-wide introduction of PACS - a digital imaging capture and networking system that does away with film. With PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System), X-Ray images are digitized and stored on a computer system and the images sent to the radiologist for interpretation. The reporting of examinations has also undergone some upgrading with the introduction of digital dictation rather than using tape recorders and most GP practices can receive reports the same day as they are checked via the electronic posting system.
