Staff visit no 10

Three staff from the Emergency Deparrtment attended the official Inaugural NHS Christmas Reception Afternoon Tea hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson on 18 December at 10 Downing Street. Annette Panksztelo, Administration Manager; Shanthi Ramraj, Locum Consultant; and Kim Pendergast, Senior Sister, went to the event, put on by the PM to thank NHS staff for working over Christmas. Kim said: "It was a privilege to represent the Trust and a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and experience!

When we arrived outside No 10 we were greeted by the Diplomatic Firearms Police who were smiling back at us as they waved their “Invite Check List” at us and reassuringly informing us when we would be allowed through along with fellow colleagues from as far a Cornwall and Leeds."

Our entry to the Reception was climbing the grand famous carpeted Oak Staircase where the historic portraits of former prime ministers looked down on us with all of their wisdom and stories. Being in the sitting room was atmospheric; like being in a film as Christmas carols and traditional festive music played out as we looked out of the window over Whitehall and we were in No 10, eating mince pies and sipping Prosecco. What a motivating experience to be special for a day and to walk through the famous black door and to be on the other side where history is made."
