Patients: Visiting someone in hospital

Pre-book to visit our hospitals

Book a visit: All visitors must pre-book before they visit so that everyone within our hospitals remains safe.

Stay in touch

You can now email a patient on one of our wards, or speak to them by video call on iPhone or iPad. To contact a patient, please email to us at thh.lovedonescommunication@nhs.net. We will print out the email and hand deliver it to the patient, or arrange a video call with them.

The e-mail must include the patient’s full name, date of birth and the ward, if known. All messages will be managed in the strictest confidence.

In-person visiting

Who can visit?

For patients with special circumstances (End of Life, cognitive impairment, under 18s in adult areas), carers will continue to be welcomed as they are at present. Where the patient has dementia or learning difficulties a single carer/visitor can be nominated; this carer/visitor will have unrestricted access to visiting day and night (the named visitor cannot be changed).

For all other visitors, some wards are now open again. For those wards you can now book online or telephone to book a visit (please see dropdown list below).

The following restrictions will be in place in order to maintain social distancing and safeguard the health and wellbeing of our staff and patients:
  • Visitors have to be from same household bubble (eg your husband can’t visit today and then your neighbour tomorrow)
  • Each patient can have ONE visitor, for ONE session, ONCE a day
  • Sessions are to be pre-booked
  • Session times: 3-5pm and 6-8pm. These were our previous visiting hours and facilitate protected meal times
  • Applies to inpatient areas. Diagnostics (radiology, endoscopy) are excepted.
  • Tower block bays: Two visitors per bay per session (one visitor per side room)
  • Other areas: One visitor per patient per session
  • Visitors must wear appropriate PPE. Where a visitor is exempt form wearing a face covering, they will not be able to visit.

Visiting times: 3-5pm and 6-8pm
